Protecting Our Rights or Glorifying God?

"When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.  And since they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in response. After they had ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What should we do with these men? For an obvious sign, evident to all who live in Jerusalem, has been done through them, and we cannot deny it!  However, so this does not spread any further among the people, let’s threaten them against speaking to anyone in this name again.” So they called for them and ordered them not to preach or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;  for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” After threatening them further, they released them. They found no way to punish them, because the people were all giving glory to God over what had been done;  for this sign of healing had been performed on a man over 40 years old." Acts 4:13‭-‬22 HCSB

Observations:

It was the combination of Peter and John's boldness and lack of education/training that led the religious leaders to the conclusion that Peter and John had been with Jesus.

The religious leaders had no interest in Jesus even though the miraculous sign was valid.

The religious leaders did not want miracles and healing to spread.

The religious leaders tried to take away the disiples freedom of speech and religious practice.

In the face of this abuse of power, the disciples did not fight for their rights, they kept the focus on glorifying God.

Today...

Unlike the disciples, it seems like our focus has become protecting our rights instead of glorifying God. I wonder what would happen if our focus shifted back to glorifying God.

Thoughts and comments always welcome ♡

Marriage by Faith :)

Marriage By Faith (Different Parts written between 2010 and 2012) Part I Most of you who have stayed in contact with me know that the Lord has done a lot of purifying in my heart concerning the matter of marriage during the past two years. Two years ago, i was single, scared to death of a broken heart, and too stubborn and proud to give up my commitment to singleness, even when i felt like God was telling me to. Today, I am happily engaged to a man who is so perfect for me that I didn't know such a person could exist... and it's all thanks to my Creator (because he's the one who said 'It's not good for man to be alone'). The story is a very long one, and i don't often have a lot of free time, but I am going to try and write it out during the little free time that i do have... so please bear with me as it is a piece by piece process. Part II: Well, as i think about it, the best place to start is in my ninth grade Bible class. Mr V. (our Bible tea...

When God's heart remains a Mystery

"But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. However, he kept back part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge, and brought a portion of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds from the field? Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God! ” When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard.  The young men got up, wrapped his body, carried him out, and buried him. There was an interval of about three hours; then his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. “Tell me,” Peter asked her, “did you sell the field for this price? ” “Yes,” she said, “for that price.” Then Peter said to...

Why this Blog Exists

Bible Study Blog Purpose: I have always loved Bible study… ever since I was a little girl. When I was little, I used to dream about the day when I would grow up so that I could go to church every night of the week and hear all the different pastors. That’s part of who I am. So, one big purpose of this blog is to continue pursuing that passion. My love of God has led me down some pretty adventurous paths in life, and there have been some pretty defining values concerning Bible Study that I have picked up along the way that I hope to reflect/implement in this blog: 1. After years of deliberate and honest study, questioning, discussion, and debate I have come  to the conclusion that I do believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God; however, for the purposes of this blog, I will refrain from participating in arguments about the Bible. I believe that the most effective way of deciding for yourself whether or not you believe it is God’s Word is to study it for yoursel...
