Genesis 2:1-3: Resting

"So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed. By the seventh day God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation." Genesis 2: 1-3

Observations:

What choices did God make?
  • God chose to rest
  • God chose to declare the day of resting "holy"
  • God chose to bless a day
What choices could God have made?
  • God could have chosen not to rest.
  • God could have chosen to do some more creating.
  • God could have chosen to say "in your face, Satan, let me see you create something this great!"
  • God could have chosen to just rest and not bless the seventh day or declare it holy.
  • God could have chosen to further define exactly what activities he means by "rest"
  • God could have chosen not to call his creation work "work." He could have called it "play," and he could be resting from His "play."
Applications:
God chose to rest. God chose to rest. God chose to rest! To me this is seriously one of the most baffling choices in the Bible. It doesn't make sense on multiple levels. First of all, God's eternal, He's pretty much been resting for all of eternity (for all I know) until this creation point. Then, six days of creating, and He already needs/wants to rest again? Second, why ever rest? I feel like this is the question of our generation: why rest? Why, if you are God, with all the energy and the power in the universe, make rest holy and blessed? Just a few verses ago, you had me... you were being an overachieving, awesome God. Now, you are throwing in a day of rest, and calling it blessed? More blessed than the over-achieving days? If I'm honest, as an overachiever, I'm feeling like God just threw me a curve ball (part of me thinks He enjoys that).

What does God's choice show me about Him? It shows me that God values rest. So, it's ok to sleep in on Saturdays :). It shows me that from the beginning a balance between rest and work was important to God. It shows me one of God's priorities is rest. It shows me that God is not an overbearing master that is only looking to see what can be accomplished. It shows me that even though God is capable of working non-stop, there must be some good reasons that He doesn't.

And this Bible Study totally came just in time for Summer Break :) Looking forward to my season of rest!!! :)

Marriage by Faith :)

Marriage By Faith (Different Parts written between 2010 and 2012) Part I Most of you who have stayed in contact with me know that the Lord has done a lot of purifying in my heart concerning the matter of marriage during the past two years. Two years ago, i was single, scared to death of a broken heart, and too stubborn and proud to give up my commitment to singleness, even when i felt like God was telling me to. Today, I am happily engaged to a man who is so perfect for me that I didn't know such a person could exist... and it's all thanks to my Creator (because he's the one who said 'It's not good for man to be alone'). The story is a very long one, and i don't often have a lot of free time, but I am going to try and write it out during the little free time that i do have... so please bear with me as it is a piece by piece process. Part II: Well, as i think about it, the best place to start is in my ninth grade Bible class. Mr V. (our Bible tea...

Why this Blog Exists

Bible Study Blog Purpose: I have always loved Bible study… ever since I was a little girl. When I was little, I used to dream about the day when I would grow up so that I could go to church every night of the week and hear all the different pastors. That’s part of who I am. So, one big purpose of this blog is to continue pursuing that passion. My love of God has led me down some pretty adventurous paths in life, and there have been some pretty defining values concerning Bible Study that I have picked up along the way that I hope to reflect/implement in this blog: 1. After years of deliberate and honest study, questioning, discussion, and debate I have come  to the conclusion that I do believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God; however, for the purposes of this blog, I will refrain from participating in arguments about the Bible. I believe that the most effective way of deciding for yourself whether or not you believe it is God’s Word is to study it for yoursel...

The book of Acts

Good Morning My Dears, I have been fighting with the Holy Spirit for some time now about switching to the book of Acts. I kind of have OCD about finishing things that I start (and I kind of have this INTENSE love for the book of Genesis), so there is this huge part of me that wants to keep on with book of Genesis as I have been. There's another part of me that feels like Holy Spirit is beckoning me to the book of Acts because there are blessings in that book that He wants to impart to me. So, per usual happenings, I am finally submitting to that call and trusting that He will bring me back to Genesis in His perfect timing :). So... the book of Acts starts like this... "I [Luke] wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach  until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing t...
